Chapter 3- His Obsession

The city buzzed around me as my sleek black car moved through the rain-slicked streets. The evening air carried the scent of wet earth and flickering neon lights reflected in puddles like scattered fragments of a dream. I barely paid attention to the world outside—until a fleeting movement caught my eye. My gaze sharpened, drawn to a lone figure weaving effortlessly through the crowd, her slender form untouched by the hurried chaos around her.

Then, the rain came—heavy, relentless. The world blurred into a shimmering haze, but she remained in focus. Instead of seeking shelter like the others, she embraced the downpour, lifting her face to the sky. Her laughter, soft yet unrestrained, reached me even through the glass. The way she twirled, as if the rain belonged to her, as if nothing else in the world mattered, made something deep inside me still.

Without thinking, I reached for my phone, capturing the moment—the raindrops glistening like diamonds against her skin, her soaked clothes clinging to her frame, her joy untouched by the weight of the world. I stared at the image, something unfamiliar curling in my chest. I had known power, fury, and the bitter ache of solitude for centuries. But this… this was different.

A slow obsession took root, winding around me like an unshakable spell. My fingers tightened around the phone as I zoomed in, tracing the curve of her lips, the hidden gleam in her rain-speckled eyes. A simple girl, lost in her own world, unaware that she had just ensnared mine. I needed to know more. I needed to know everything.

As the rain began to subside, I watched her step off the sidewalk, shaking droplets from her hair as she hurried toward a car parked nearby. Another girl stood beside her, laughing softly as they slipped into the vehicle. My fingers instinctively tightened around my phone. I couldn’t let this moment vanish into the night like a fleeting dream. Quickly, I lifted my phone and snapped a photo of the license plate just before the car pulled away. A small but significant lead.

A slow smirk played at my lips. Now, I had a way to find her.

I started my car, keeping a safe distance as I followed them through the winding streets. The city lights reflected off the damp asphalt, casting an ethereal glow over the silent pursuit. My mind swirled with questions. Who was she? Where did she live? What was her world like beyond this one enchanting moment? I was a man accustomed to answers, and I intended to get them.

The car led me to a quiet residential neighborhood, the air thick with the scent of wet earth and blooming flowers. I watched as the two girls stepped out, still laughing, still lost in their own world. She was comfortable with the other girl, the way her guard remained down suggested familiarity—perhaps a sister, or a close friend. They entered the house, disappearing behind the door, leaving me in the silence of my own growing obsession.

I parked a few houses down, leaning back in my seat, eyes fixed on the house that now held the girl who had unknowingly ensnared my thoughts. The madness of it all struck me then—I was chasing a ghost, a mere vision I had seen once in the rain. And yet, this insanity felt oddly refreshing, a break from the endless monotony of eternity. It had been centuries since something—or someone—had pulled me from my own detachment.

Under my breath, I whispered to myself, "My Rain Angel..." The name felt right, as if she had always belonged to the rain, and now, to me. The absurdity of it all should have made me stop, but I didn’t care. For the first time in what felt like lifetimes, something real had gripped my soul.

"She's mine now. Mine to find, mine to know, mine to cherish."

The words left my lips before I could stop them, sending a shiver down my spine. The raw intensity in my own voice startled me. I had lived too long, seen too much, but never had I felt such a fierce, territorial hunger. She was different.

Without another glance at the house, I shifted the gears and pulled away, the image of her laughter beneath the rain burned into my mind as I drove back toward my mansion.
